Once upon a time, there lived a man.
He was born under the rule of Mugabe, to a country that knew poverty, laughter, enocomic tatters and political strife.
If it had been another time, he never would have met her, for she was born in a far away land - with fire in her heart, and a passion for rebellion in her soul...
She knew of guerilla combatters and civil war mixed with the heat of the tropics.
In another time, she would have grown to be a teacher like her mother...
And he woudve rebelled in his frustrations.
But they were born to parents that although far from ever knowing each other, felt the need to flee, and so they flew, walked, drove, fought, starved, cried, hoped and dreamed their way to the land of rainbows and sunshine...
And they grew up on the Turtle Land of masked discrimination and tall tales of opportunities.
But each faught, starved, cried, dreamt, hoped, laughed, danced their way through the cultural labarynth that is the Global North.
And they were loved, and they loved.
They were not supposed to meet, neither one was supposed to go out. Neither knew of the others existence. It is odd the role that destiny plays when she wants you to learn a lesson. And after eyes catching, smiles exchanged, sms-ing, bbming, concert going, dinners, wisdom teeths, pumpkin fights, intracate kisses, tender love making, driving long distances, late night talking, forgiving early lies, and finally falling in love...
They find destiny and faith in a bitter quarrel
And they are confronted with jealousy, un-hidden photos, trust waivering, lonely hotel rooms, love reproven, dances, laughs, patience faltering, silly arguements, quiet nights, resentment, birthday parties, bitterness, hurt. And finally...
Silence.
And to this day neither of them know what destiny had in mind nor what lesson faith had planned.
He told her to write him a story.
She wrote him a poem, short and sang him a song where the bridged repeated,
He told her to write him a story
And she made him dance to the sad song they had fallen in love too
a foreshadow, premonition to what could have been so beautiful, cut short. Pretty wings set to fly? Perhaps.
Once upon a time their lived a man and a woman who were not supposed to meet. But faith and destiny played them a dirty gamble.
They broke each others heart. This is their story.
The End
